In 2007, Girijananda Chowdhury Institute of Pharmaceutical Science (GIPS) began its operations as the first non-government pharmacy institute in the state of Assam. The college was established under the aegis of Shrimanta Shankar Academy (SSA) - a registered service organization, set up in 1992, to help the society and its youth progress through education.
GIPS lives by three values - Truth, Discipline, and Excellence. It aims to establish a morally sound education system that not only produces competent professionals, but also excellent human beings contributing towards the welfare of the society.
The institute's primary objective is to provide the best pharmaceutical education in the North East.
To achieve this, GIPS has invested in state-of-the-art infrastructure, and highly knowledgeable faculty - most of whom either hold, or are pursuing their doctorate.
The college takes a lot of care to stay up-to-date with the changing trends in pharmaceuticals by constantly interacting with industry stalwarts. Another way it maintains its edge is by conducting its own research.
